There's new track and field hardware gracing shelves in Moorhead these days.
The Minnesota State, Moorhead men's track and field team won its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title since 2001 and its top sprinter, top thrower, and head coach left the meet toting individual honors as well.
Moorhead topped the men's division of the NSIC meet, held over the weekend in Bemiidji, with 161.5 points, out-scoring Augustana at 132.5 and Minnesota State, Mankato at 114.5. The title is the Dragons fifth all-time in the NSIC.
Moorhead’s Derek Bredy, a West Central Area High School graduate, was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Meet. He earned three individual titles, winning the long jump with 23-4 1/2, the 60-meter dash in 6.83 and 200-meter dash in 21.90. Bredy was the meet's top point scorer.
Moorhead’s Anthony Enyi, a Lakeville North alumnus, was named the NSIC Field Athlete of the Year. He won the weight throw with an NSIC record toss of 66-8 3/4 and put the shot 55’ 7” for second place.
Dragon head coach Keith Barnier, a Moorhead State alumnus, was named the Men’s Coach of the Year. The NSIC post-meet media release can be found HERE.
In women's competition, Augustana won the team title with 166.5 points. Winona State, in third with 99.5 points, was the top Minnesota team in the competition.
