Season Hits Full Stride at Jack Johnson

The University of Minnesota indoor season hits full stride this weekend when the Gophers host the Jack Johnson Classic at the University Fieldhouse today and tomorrow.

The Gopher teams will host Iowa, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, University of South Florida, South Dakota State, and Manitoba as well as a handful of open athletes in the meet in which the Gophers typically pull out all the early-season stops.

Competition begins today at 3:00 p.m., with multi-event athletes taking center stage. Saturday's program begins at 10:00 a.m.

Team USA Minn. at Jack Johnson ... Three Team USA Minnesota distance runners – Matt Gabrielson, Meghan Armstrong and Jamie Cheever – will race the 3000-meter distance at the meet. All three are using the indoor track meet as a final tune-up before they compete at the USA Cross Country Championships in San Diego on February 5.

Gabrielson most recently placed 18th at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Men’s Cross Country Team Challenge in Scotland on January 8. Armstrong’s recently finished 7th in the Bay Area Cross Challenge in San Francisco on January 16. Last Saturday. Cheever ran a 4:47.87 to win the women’s mile race at the Minnesota Open.
