Team USA Minn. Adds Anderson, Rombough

Former University of Minnesota stars Gabriele Anderson and Chris Rombough are joining Team USA Minnesota for the next chapter of their running careers.

The elite long distance training group made the announcement yesterday.

Anderson finished her Golden Gopher running career in a flourish this spring with second place finishes in the 800 and 1500 meters at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and a second place in the 1500m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Last weekend, she finished seventh in the 1500m at the USA Outdoor Championships.

Anderson also set a personal best of 4:13.45 during the season. In addition, she was a member of the University's 4x800 and 4x1600m championship relay teams at the 2010 Drake Relays. In cross country, she was a two-time NCAA Cross Country Championships competitor. Anderson received her degree in English and political science in 2009 and is currently working on her master's degree in public policy at the University.

Rombough was a six-time All-American for the Gophers -- three times in cross country and three times in track. He was the 2006 Big Ten Cross Country champion, the 2008 Big Ten 10,000m champion, and placed second in both the 5000m and 10,000m at the 2010 Big Ten Outdoor Championships.

Rombough also competed at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000m. Rombough has bests of 3:44.49 in the 1500m, 7:54.57 in the 3000m, 13:48.80 in the 5000m and 29:10.67 in the 10,000m.
Rombough graduated this spring with a degree in coaching and communication studies.

"It's great to be able to support Gabriele and Chris in continuing their running careers," Team USA Minnesota coach Dennis Barker said. "They both have progressed well at the University of Minnesota and have what it takes to make it to the next level."

"We have such a fantastic running community here and it's fun for us to watch area runners develop through high school and college and continue on into the professional ranks," he added. "It says a lot about the quality of our high school distance coaches, the quality of the University of Minnesota programs, and the support of our running community to have these two athletes join our team."

Anderson is originally from Perham and a graduate of Perham High School where she was a four-time all-state performer in cross country and the 2004 state champion in the 800 meters. Rombough grew up in Fremont, Wisconsin, and graduated from New London High School. As a prep, he was a two-time state track champion winning both the 1600 and 3200 as a senior, was a two-time Wisconsin Division I state cross country champion, and placed fifth in the 2004 Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals.
