While the Big Ten Indoor Championships are sure to grab a lot of attention this weekend -- especially the men's meet hosted by the defending champion Gophers -- a fistful of Minnesota professional tracksters will compete this weekend at the USA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In fact, Minnetonka High School alum Will Leer who will compete in the 1500 meters, was just interviewed ahead of the meet on Runner's World On-Line, HERE.
Leer and fellow Minnesota native Garrett Heath have a solid shot of finishing first or second in the event, which would earn a trip to the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar in March.
At the New Balance Indoor Games in Boston earlier this year, Leer ran a PR 3:55.66 for second place in the mile, while Heath was 5th in 3:57.34.
Heath is the #2 seed in the USA Indoor 1500m; Leer is the #3 seed.
Also declared for USA Indoors are: Team USA Minnesota's Heather Dorniden, the #4 seed in the women's 800m; Burnsville High School alum Laura Januszewski, the #9 seed in the 800m; Minnetonka alum Molly Lehman, the #10 seed in the women's 1500m; the U of M's Gabriele Anderson, the #12 seed in the 1500m; Katelin Rains, the #6 seed in the women's pole vault; and Amanda Smock the #4 seed in the women's triple jump.
Action at the USA Indoor Championships gets underway Saturday morning.
