Zivec Ranked #1 ... Without the Asterisk

The latest Minnesota high school cross country polls have been released, and there is only one change at the top of the eight team and individual rankings -- a subtle one.

Grand Rapids' international student Jacub Zivec has had the asterisk removed from his #1 ranking. Zevic, who is only allowed to compete as a JV runner this year, is now the lone #1 individual in the Class AA boys ranks.

Last week, Zivec shared the #1 rank with Mahad Hassan of Willmar, and the Czech national also had an asterisk placed after his ranking.

Learn more about the Zivec situation HERE and HERE.

  1. Let's hear from the rankers as to why this young man is included in the "Minnesota Cross Country State Rankings".
The bottom line, is that he will not be running in Sections nor be able to qualify for State.
After watching him compete at Swain, I don't doubt that he is the "top high school aged" distance runner in the state. But and it's a big however, he is a visitor to MN and that's it.

  2. He is the fastest high schooler in MN. They are rankings, not a state meet prediction, so the fact that he will not run at state is irrelevant. The only dissapointing part about it is that the other runners will not have the opportunity to toe the line and make him prove that he is the best (at least until footlocker MW).

  3. I'm going to assume that the rankers removed the asterisk solely because of my rant on this subject last week. DtB comments hold that kind of power.

Now I'd like to see that Bemidji kid move up a couple of spots in the rankings. He's been underrated all year!

    Let's go Lumberjacks!
