TCM History: 2005 Champions and Their Races

Here's the third installment in our series, with partner the Competitive Image, remembering recent Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon champions and the races they won.

Below, the 2005 Twin Cities Marathon champions:

'o5 women's champ Nicole Aish: Like 2003 TCM women's champ Blake Russell, Aish ran aggressively in her debut marathon -- reaching 13.1 miles in 1:15:52, nearly four minutes ahead of her nearest challenger -- and held together well enough in the hot, sticky conditions to win TCM and the USA Women's title by 45 seconds over Zika Palmer in 2:40:21, the second slowest women's winning time in TCM history.

'05 men's champ Mbarek Hussein: Although he ran the second slowest men's winning time in TCM history, 2:18:28, Hussein pocketed a cool $38,000 for wining the 2005 TCM and the USA Open and Master Championships it contested. As late-race contenders James Carney and Brandon Leslie faded in the challenging conditions, the Kenyan-born U.S. citizen held together for the win.
